An At Home Getaway: The McIntyre Project

The McIntyres purchased their home in Easton in 2002, falling in love with the neighborhood location, view, and culture. Years later, in 2018, the retired couple felt that despite what they liked about their home, they couldn’t fully enjoy two of its most essential spaces: their primary bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The McIntyres envisioned these spaces as their own personal retreat where they could relax and unwind after a long day or escape when their nine grandkids went home after a family visit. When they reached out to Lehigh Valley Renovations, we were committed to making their dream retreat space a reality.

The couple’s main goals for the project included upgrading the standard builder-grade finishes in the Tuskes-built home with more modernized features. To make their bedroom and ensuite bathroom into more usable spaces, they also wanted to finish unused space above the garage to create more room for leisure and relaxation.

We began the McIntyre project by expanding the ensuite bathroom to create a more spa-like, calming atmosphere. By removing a small, pre-existing closet and utilizing empty space above the garage, we were able to provide them with a spacious shower area featuring two rainfall shower heads, double glass doors, and high-end brushed nickel finishes. We added custom his and her closets for additional storage, large mirrors, a quartz countertop vanity and makeup area, as well as custom arch-top doors. To round out the get-away feel of this ensuite bathroom, we also created a vaulted ceiling above the shower space as well as a bench area with a mosaic tile accent wall with antique white grout color to tie it all together.

In the primary bedroom, our design team developed a plan that truly expanded the essence of relaxation for the McIntyre oasis. One of the standout features is a stunning tray ceiling above the bed area, adding depth and elegance to the space. We also took advantage of a little-used seating nook by adding a picture window to the wall that previously lacked natural light, allowing an abundance of sunlight to flood the room. To enhance the serene ambiance, we carefully selected a muted lavender hue for the walls – a color the couple said they would never consider but fell in love with once the final project was complete.

During the primary suite renovation, the McIntyres decided to extend their project to include a hallway bathroom as well as replace the flooring on the second-floor landing and stairway railing. In the hall bath, a modern-style vanity and an updated sink with matching finishes elevated the space. The soothing sage paint and tasteful matte black hardware and accessories throughout the space create a striking contrast. For visual interest and additional storage, floating shelves fit the bathroom’s modernized style.

The updated flooring and railings breathe new life into the home. We replaced the original builder-grade flooring with maple hardwood, bringing a touch of elegance and warmth to the space. New luxury carpet was then installed on the staircase which instantly elevated the visual appeal as you walk through the front door. Coupled with sleek, satin black metal balusters, the modern and clean aesthetic perfectly complements the overall design.

The McIntyre’s renovation is a striking blend of traditional and contemporary elements, creating captivating focal points in each room that enhance the home’s overall charm and sophistication.
